Hofstra held the Dragons (2-7, 0-2 CAA) off the board for the first time in 2009 as the Pride (5-3-1, 2-0) defeated Drexel, 4-0, in Hempstead, N.Y.

Hofstra’s Jess Crankshaw scored twice in the first half to give the Pride the lead. In the 29th minute, Crankshaw got on the board on a direct kick from about 25 yards out. She added another minutes before intermission when she scored from 30 yards away on a shot that went off of Drexel keeper Nicole Sinclair’s hand on an attempt to make the save.

The Pride didn’t take long to add to the lead in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Tiffany
Yovino picked up a loose ball and scored for the third time this season to give the Pride a three-goal edge. Hofstra added another goal to make the final 4-0. The Pride outshout Drexel, 19-7. Sinclair made four saves in a losing effort.

The Dragons had scored at least a goal in each of their first eight matches, the longest streak to start a season in school history. Drexel will head to Virginia next weekend for a two-game trip. The Dragons play Friday night at Old Dominion under the lights and face William and Mary on Sunday afternoon.
