Box Score
Hempstead, N.Y. - No. 11 Drexel set a school record for goals in a Colonial Athletic Association game as the Dragons dropped Hofstra, 7-3, in both teams' conference opener. Elizabeth Koch tied a school record with three assists while Christina Mastropaolo and Susan Ciufo each recorded two goals. The win moved Drexel to 8-1 (1-0 CAA) on the season while Hofstra dipped to 5-4 (0-1 CAA).
Hofstra opened the scoring with an early goal from Nancy Wagenbrenner less than three minutes into the game. The Dragons responded with a three-goal flurry within a span of just over seven minutes to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Mastropaolo started the run as she deflected a Koch offering into the cage while Ciufo gave Drexel the lead with a goal from in front after receiving a pass from Koch that was initiated on the right side. Ciufo added another as she cleaned up a rebound to give the Dragons a two-goal edge.
After the break, Hofstra cut the lead in half after Genna Kovar scored on a penalty corner but another three-goal spurt helped give Drexel the victory. Mastropaolo, Sofia Sanguinetti and Carolina Gibernau each scored with Mastropaolo's score coming off of Koch's record-tying assist. Hofstra picked up a late goal but Drexel's Jordan Freese capped the game's scoring with a tally directly off a penalty corner.
After more than 15 years without a player recording three assists in one game, Drexel has now had two different players accomplish the feat within a three-game span as Ciufo notched three in the Dragons' win over Fairfield.
