Nine-Goal Run Sends Hofstra Past Drexel in Women's Lacrosse Season Finale

Hempstead, N.Y. - Hofstra scored nine straight goals in the decisive first half as the Pride defeated Drexel, 18-10, in both teams' season finale. Katie Lawson scored five goals for the Dragons but it was not enough as the Dragons finished their season at 8-9. Hofstra improved to 10-6 with the victory.

Charlotte Wood opened the game's scoring with an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game but the Pride quickly rebounded with nine straight scores until Lawson halted the run with seven minutes remaining in the period. The Pride got a goal with 61 seconds remaining to give them an eight-goal lead at 10-2 heading into halftime.

The second half featured back-and-forth action and was much more evenly played. Drexel picked up the first two goals with Ali Allen scoring just 94 seconds into the period while Lawson collected her second of the game just one minute later. Hofstra got the goals right back but Katie Blazer scored her first goal of the game to bring Drexel to within 12-5. The Pride recorded two more goals but Danielle Iacono and Lawson each scored to bring the Hofstra lead back to seven goals. Once again, Hofstra managed another two-goal run but Drexel came back with two goals by Lawson and Nicole Musto's first score of the game. Hofstra ended the contest with the final two goals of the contest to make the final, 18-10.

Freshman Emily Kane continued her strong second half of the season as she totaled three groundballs, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Musto added a team-high four draw controls to her two groundballs and one goal. Lauren LaBella made 11 saves and allowed 16 goals while Whitney Johnson entered the game in the second half to make one saves while allowing two goals.

Ashley Klun scored the game-winning goal for Drexel in a 1-0 win over UMBC in the women's soccer season opener at Vidas Field. Klun netted her first strike of the season with less than seven minutes left in the contest.
